For thirteen years, the much-anticipated sequel to “Avatar” has required intensive production work. Now, “Avatar: The Way of Water” rewards the long wait with an extravaganza of special effects cinematic spectacle. And as the title announces, a great deal of action takes place in and around water with thrilling play, risky adventures, and rousing combat.

More than a decade after the events of Avatar, Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldaña) have formed a family, having three kids of their own and two adopted children. The Sullys live a peaceful life until humans return to Pandora for the first time since they were defeated by the Na’vi. Still obsessed with exploiting Pandora’s natural resources, the humans build a base to continue extracting whatever they can, damaging the ecosystem and Na’vi villages in the process.

Avatar: The Way of Water is a gorgeous and stunning thing to look at, with awesome sights of underwater fauna. The new movie is an emotionally charged outing that again dips into themes of colonization while adding environmental issues and relatable family drama.
