Derived from Danny Lyons 1967 photography study of bikers in the Mid-west, it pays a clear tribute to classic films exploiting the iconic mid-century cool of the motorbike as a potent and very American symbol of individual freedom.
Inspired by the Chicago-based Outlaws MC, the film follows the inner world of fictional club The Vandals, as seen through the lives of its members – storyteller Kathy (Comer), smouldering Benny (Butler) and melancholic Jonny (Hardy). Over the course of ten years Kathy falls for handsome bad boy Benny and finds her life taken over by bikes, beers and brawls. Under the leadership of Jonny, the group changes from a gathering of local outsiders into something more sinister – ultimately threatening Jonny’s power and the original group’s way of life.
