2017 ( USA | UK ) ( Biography, Drama, History )

DIRECTOR:  Steven Spielberg
STARRING:  Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sarah Paulson

This film tells the story of Washington Post’s efforts to reveal how Nixon and previous administrations continued the Vietnam War despite the fact they knew it was unwinnable, in order to avoid the humiliation of an American defeat. The Post’s editor, Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks), and The Post’s owner, Kay Graham (Meryl Streep), find themselves in a moral dilemma over whether to publish this information in an increasingly tense and involving drama. If they publish, they are committing treason. If they don’t they are failing in their duty to pursue the truth.

‘The Post’ couldn’t be more relevant in our era of spin doctors, fake news and cyber attacks and it is told with wit, precision and understated passion. Its period setting belies its bitingly timely themes, brought compellingly to life by director Steven Spielberg and an outstanding ensemble cast.
