The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan is a rare and welcome big-budget interpretation of Dumas’ story in his own language, which like the film 50 years ago brings to life only the first half of the novel. The rest of the saga will follow in The Three Musketeers: Milady, scheduled for release later this year.

D’Artagnan, an intrepid young man, is presumed dead after trying to save a young woman from being kidnapped. When he arrives in Paris, he tries by all means to find his attackers. However, he is unaware that the search for him will lead him to the heart of a war in which the future of France is at stake. Together with Athos, Porthos and Aramis, three brave musketeers of the king, D’Artagnan faces the dark machinations of Cardinal Richelieu.

It’s a rip-roaring 17th-century adventure which cuts and thrusts, swashes and buckles, from beginning to end and, also in common with Lester’s movie, never takes itself too seriously. Packed with intrigue and action, The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan is an epic adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’s classic.
