2017 ( UK | USA ) ( Crime, Drama )
DIRECTOR: Martin McDonagh
STARRING: Frances McDormand, Woody Harrelson, Sam Rockwell
The film is set seven years after Mildred Hayes’ daughter was raped and murdered and she becomes impatient with the lack of progress on the case. Mildred (Frances McDormand) decides to confront both the police and the tragedy of her daughter’s death by erecting roadside monuments to her grief and rage. Chief Willoughby (Woody Harrelson) is understandably chagrined. Other officers, in particular a hothead racist named Dixon (Sam Rockwell), go ballistic.
Winner of two Oscars, ‘Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri’ deftly balances black comedy against searing drama and draws unforgettable performances from its veteran cast along the way. It will make you feel deeply, laugh loudly and think hard, often in the space of one scene. It is an absolute triumph and sees both Frances McDormand and writer / director Martin McDonagh at their very best.
