A Member’s Choice Film. It is now 75 years since the D-Day landings and this film is a tribute to those who died and those who survived, touching on the aspects of loyalty and camaraderie. It tells the story of elderly veterans returning to Normandy for the 50th anniversary of D-Day to revisit old memories, old friendships, and past love. With a flawless cast and splendid script, A Foreign Field is by turns funny, poignant, and powerfully dramatic. It is also a moving tribute to the heroism of those who fight our wars, doing their best to fulfil their duty as they see it.

This is a sweet and gentle movie that carefully avoids any saccharine sentiment. It’s just film-making at its absolute best.
