Volunteering

Without volunteers Harborough Cinema could not exist. We are a non-profit making community cinema. Volunteering with Harborough Cinema is both enjoyable and fulfilling. You will meet and mix with a group of enthusiastic volunteers and can enhance your skills both socially and technically if you wish. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer we would love to hear from you.

Volunteer roles

Click on one or more of the headings below to find out more about the different ways you could get involved.

Front of house

The front of house (FOH) team are the welcoming face of Harborough Cinema. They meet and greet members of the audience and supervise the entrances to the auditorium. They are responsible for the safety of the audience and building.

How it works

Working in conjunction with the front of house manager the FOH team will be responsible for helping the audience members by being friendly and approachable, helping with any needs or problems that may arise, answering questions, showing people to their seats etc.

Commitment and reward

If you enjoy meeting people, are friendly and approachable and can spare an evening or two each month then you will find that becoming part of the front of house team is a rewarding and satisfying experience, helping you meet new people with similar interests. Full support will be given.

Send an email to enquiries@harboroughcinema.uk and we will get back to you.

Projectionist

The projectionist is responsible for setting up and operating the projection equipment before the film or broadcast.

How it works

The projectionist will usually arrive 1 hour before the start time of the film or broadcast and will set up the projection equipment. This involves lowering the projection screen, carrying and positioning the main loudspeakers on the stage behind the screen and checking that the projection equipment is working correctly including the adjustment of the sound levels to the correct level. When the projectionist is happy that everything is ready then he or she will notify the front of house team that the audience can be allowed into the auditorium. At the start of the film or broadcast the projectionist will dim the auditorium lighting and initiate the projection of the film or broadcast. After the show is over the projectionist will pack all of the projection equipment away.

Commitment and reward

If you enjoy watching films and are comfortable working with computer technology then becoming a projectionist with us could well be a very satisfying and rewarding experience. You can choose which evening or weekend sessions you are able to cover in advance but you need to be fully committed to turn up on time when you have agreed to be the projectionist for a specific session.

Full training and support will be given and you will not be expected to be the sole projectionist on an evening until you are completely comfortable doing so.
