2017 ( USA | Italy | UK ) ( Biography, Crime, Drama )
DIRECTOR: Ridley Scott
STARRING: Michelle Williams, Christopher Plummer, Mark Wahlberg
This film tells the story of the kidnapping of 16-year-old John Paul Getty III and the desperate attempt by his devoted mother to convince his billionaire grandfather Jean Paul Getty to pay the ransom.
In this tense, tightly-plotted thriller, Getty (Christopher Plummer) is portrayed as one of the richest men in the world who has an almost certifiable need to pinch pennies. He was convinced it was a hoax or, even if it was genuine, then paying the ransom would immediately put his other grandchildren at risk.
Ridley Scott manages to keep the suspense ticking over, expertly switching between the tense negotiations in England and southern Italy, where Paul is being held by an increasingly bemused collection of petty thieves and hard-bitten mafia. All the Money in the World offers an absorbing portrayal of a true story, brought compellingly to life by a powerful performance from Christopher Plummer.
