2018 ( UK | USA ) ( Biography, Drama, Music )
Starring: Rami Malek, Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee
Director: Bryan Singer
Winner of 4 Oscars including ‘Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role’ for Rami Malek, Bohemian Rhapsody tells the story of the legendary rock band Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury, leading up to their famous performance at Live Aid in 1985.
This film is about what Freddie created, how he made himself a star, how he touched millions of lives and, with three other talented musicians and songwriters, created and performed some of the greatest popular music of the last century. This film does not avoid the issue of Freddie’s sexuality or the devastation of his AIDS diagnosis. He was clearly a difficult man to be around and even to love sometimes. With a magnetic screen presence, Malek becomes Freddie so fully that by the end of the film you’ve forgotten you’re not watching the original Live Aid performance as Freddie prances around Wembley’s stage, with you and the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand.
