Cost: £10.00 for both films in the double bill showing and the buffet

On Friday, we have a double bill with a buffet. The first film, Rabbit Proof Fence (which starts at 5.30pm), was first shown on the 17th October 2003. Members selected this film, not only because it’s a great film, but because it was the best attended film when we operated from the community lounge at Welland Park Community College. The lounge had a  40 seats capacity and somehow we fitted in 58 members, by sitting people  on the floor and even on step ladders at the back!
The second film is Green Book which is our highest scoring film  with an Appreciation Index of 100%.

Please note that due to the seating capacity for the buffet there will be a limit of 60 tickets available. So get in quick to avoid disappointment!

2018 ( USA ) ( Biography, Comedy, Drama )

Starring:  Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali, Linda Cardellini
Director:  Peter Farrelly

Green Book (which won 3 Oscars including Best Motion Picture) is based on the real-life friendship between Tony Lip (Viggo Mortensen), a blue-collar Italian American and Dr Don Shirley (Mahershala Ali), the cultured African American concert pianist. Tony is hired to drive Don on a tour of the still segregated Deep South. They must rely on “The Green Book”, a guide for ‘Negro motorists’ driving in the South, advising them where they may eat and sleep to ensure a ‘vacation without aggravation’. Confronted with racism, danger, unexpected humanity and humour, they are forced to set aside differences to survive and thrive on the journey of a lifetime.

Don’t miss this film. It epitomises all the things to which we aspire. It’s a handsomely made and watchable picture and there is real warmth in Ali and Mortensen’s performances.
