Hidden Figures is a soul-stirring and inspirational true story about a group of remarkable women that is both long overdue and incredibly timely.
Set in the early 1960s as a nervous America was losing the space race to the Russians, it’s the story of three female African-American mathematicians who played pivotal behind-the-scenes roles at NASA, ultimately enabling John Glenn to orbit the earth in 1962. This film doesn’t whinge about their plight or society’s prejudice against them. Instead, taking inspiration from the women’s brilliance, dignity and good humour, the picture focuses on their astonishing achievements and the qualities it took for them to be realised. It’s an upbeat and often moving story about overcoming adversity, with talent prevailing against the odds.
