House of Gucci is a titillating, ridiculous and utterly engrossing soap opera. It’s based on a luscious, true story featuring vicious family infighting and culminating in a murder. Lady Gaga plays Patrizia Reggiani, the girl from the wrong side of the tracks who, in 1970, meets Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver), heir to the Italian fashion empire, at a party and is determined to have him. The pair have a fast and intense romance and marry against the will of Maurizio’s father (Jeremy Irons) who suspects Patrizia is a gold digger. Maurizio eventually dumps Patrizia in 1985 and she vows to seek revenge while his bad business decisions plunge the company into bankruptcy. She then colludes with her best friend to hire a pair of killers to murder Maurizio on the steps of his office in Milan.
House of Gucci has it all when it comes to family intrigue and betrayal, fronted by a knock-out performance from Lady Gaga.
