Le Nozze Di Figaro

ROH, Recorded Live

One of Mozart’s finest comic operas.

Director:  David McVicar
Starring:  Erwin Schrott, Anita Hartig, Ivor Bolton

Mozart’s beloved comic opera ‘Le Nozze Di Figaro’ (‘The Marriage of Figaro’) is considered a cornerstone of the standard operatic repertoire, here brought to the stage by long-serving director Sir David McVicar.

The opera begins with Figaro and Susanna in the midst of preparations for their wedding day, and they’re understandably excited about it. But Figaro’s master, the married Count Almaviva, has designs on Susanna and intends to stop their plans.

A huge success since its first performance, this production of ‘Le Nozze Di Figaro’ is set in a French château in 1830, highlighting the opera’s underlying themes of class tension.
