In 17th century Scotland, the beautiful Lucia is secretly in love with Edgardo di Ravenswood, who her family cannot bear. Despite their objections, the lovers meet in the dead of night and exchange rings as a token of their love, vowing to marry as soon as they can. However, Lucia’s family have other plans, and force her into an engagement with Arturo – a man they consider more suitable. With deception rife, Lucia and Edgardo are manipulated at every turn, and soon their love is put to the ultimate test.
Featuring one of opera’s most heart-breaking moments of insanity, Lucia Di Lammermoor is considered to be the piece de resistance of composer Gaetano Donizetti. Performed at the Royal Opera House for the first time in over a decade, this is a theatrical experience that will thrill opera fans everywhere.
