1984 ( West Germany | France | UK | USA ) ( Drama )

DIRECTOR:  Wim Wenders
STARRING:  Harry Dean Stanton, Nastassja Kinski, Dean Stockwell

Travis (Harry Dean Stanton) is seen wandering out of the desert, dirty and dishevelled. Who is he? Where has he been? Where is he going? These are questions that the film will eventually answer, but the pleasure of watching the story unfold is less in solving the mystery of the man’s identity than it is in witnessing the complexities, both beautiful and tragic, of his various relationships.

This film was Wim Wenders big debut on the directorial scene and it was as original as anything you’re likely to see. This film features startling imagery, beautiful vistas and a uniformly great cast. It’s a superbly framed film. Every shot is art in itself. Every image is one you could frame. Every scene just rolls along. You find yourself being taken on a journey that leaves you just as confused and aimless as the characters within, and when all becomes clearer it seems like the natural progression.

Paris, Texas is a masterpiece about the inability of humans to communicate. The film took out the Golden Palm at Cannes, as well as a Golden Globe and BAFTA awards.
