This is the inspirational story of Mercedes Gleitze, the first British woman to swim the English Channel and her battle against both the cold waters and the oppressive society of 1920s England. This story is moving, entertaining and educational – you will understand the struggle involved and courage required for swimming the Channel. This film captures the risks and the very basic support available at the time.
All the swimming sequences were shot in the English Channel and Kirsten Callaghan trained for months prior to the filming, completing all sequences herself without the use of stunt doubles.
